Taki Government College had first opened its doors for the students on 15th September, 1950. The college has traversed a long way ever since. Located on the banks of the river ICHHAMATI, this prestigious college has acquired a place of its own in constructing and defining the destiny of students down the years.

Surrounded by lush greenery the college is composed of a science and an arts building. There is also an annexe building for the Department of Geography. The college has witnessed pages of history unfolding itself as it stands as a proud repository of tradition, culture and heritage. Taki is well connected both by railways and by roadways. Nearest railway station from the College is Taki Road Station in Sealdah-Hasnabad section.

The full time professors of the college are appointed by the Government of West Bengal under West Bengal Educational Service according to the norms specified by the University Grants Commission. The teachers are transferred to different Govt. Colleges as per the rules of the W.B.E.S. The Govt. of West Bengal also appoints the non-teaching staffs of the college. A large number of part-time teachers are also engaged to take class in various subjects. Retired teachers are assigned to undertake teaching responsibilities on part-time basis based on the eligibility criteria at par with the whole time teachers against existing available posts.

The Higher Education Department headed by the Director of Public Instruction and Principal Secretary controls the administration of the college and frames all the policies and functional modalities of the college meant for the Principal to execute. The Governing Body is headed by the District Magistrate as the president.

The college depends on grants received from the Government of West Bengal and the University Grants Commission. A computer traning centre. NSS, NCC and Netaji Subhas Open University are also attached to the college. The college is facilitated by a students' hostel meant to cater to the needs of outstation candidates. The Library is well-stocked and is geared towards an all-round development of the students. Seminars are held for the benefit of the students. Sporting activities are held round the year. The students union offers a platform to the students to voice their concern. Students can interact with each other in the common room an engage themselves in creative activities. The college also has a canteen for the benefits of its students. Yearly magazine is published to enable students to develop their innate potentials.

The teaching and non-teaching staffs of the college strive towards an all-round excellence of the college. Students must abide by the rules and regulations of the college and remember that it is only through combined efforts that we can raise the college to better heights. Students shall come and go but the college shall remain as a foundation to their future, shaping their destiny year after year.

NSS/NCC
The College owns an active unit of National Service Scheme (NSS) under West Bengal State University (WBSU).

There is a strong unit of National Cadet Corps (NCC) under 48 Bengal Bn., NCC, Barrackpore engaged in grooming the youth.
UGC SPONSORED SCHEMES
Free remedial coaching classes for SC/ST/OBC/Minority students are arranged in each department. Free coaching is also provided for different competitive examinations including NET/SLET Exam. The college runs also a very active unit of Equal Opportunity Programme.
NSOU STUDY CENTRE
Netaji Subhas Open University (NSOU) study centre is attached with the college imparting distance education. It offers UG/PG Courses in different disciplines. Dr. Tapas Chandra Saha, Associate Professor in Zoology is now course coordinator of NSOU Study centre.
